ATTENDANCE MATTERS!

At the School Board meeting in February 2026, many of you showed incredible support for our school community. Thanks to that support, our librarian position was preserved, and we are so grateful for the advocacy from our families.

Since the meeting, several families have asked what they can do to continue supporting Carrillo. One of the most impactful ways to help is by ensuring strong student attendance.

School funding in California is directly tied to daily student attendance. For reference, on the day of the Board Meeting (February 26), Carrillo lost approximately $389,000 in funding due to student absences.

We absolutely understand that many illnesses have been going around, and we do want families to keep students home if they are sick to help keep our community healthy.

However, if you know your child will be absent for a planned reason — even for just one school day — you can request an Independent Study Contract. When students complete Independent Study during a planned absence, the school is still able to receive attendance funding.

Independent Study Contracts require at least 5 school days notice. If you know your child will be out, please visit the front office to request a contract. Your child’s teacher is not able to provide these contracts directly.

Thank you for continuing to support Carrillo and for partnering with us to ensure the best possible resources for our students.
